Our German branch signs up to Charta der Vielfalt

Munich, 24 June 2021 – Reflecting its mission to be a diverse and inclusive employer the German operation of Aioi Nissay Dowa Europe (AND-E), the European subsidiary of the Asian insurance giant MS&AD Insurance Group Holdings Inc, has signed up to the Charta der Vielfalt.

The German diversity charter – whose aim is to highlight the importance of diversity in Germany’s business culture – was launched in 2006 and is a corporate initiative under the patronage of the German Chancellor Angela Merkel. Over 3,900 companies and organisations, representing more than 14 million employees, have already signed the Charta der Vielfalt.  By signing the charter, we make a voluntary commitment to promote diversity across our organisation.

Martin Spangenberg, Branch Manager Germany at AND-E explains why the company believes it is an important step to sign the Charta der Vielfalt:

“AND-E Germany is wholeheartedly committed to creating a workplace free of bias. We employ over 180 people from 22 different nationalities and over 47% of our colleagues are women.  Signing the “Charta der Vielfalt” is another important demonstration of our commitment to diversity.”

“We are ensuring that every employee regardless of age, gender, nationality, religious viewpoint, sexual orientation and social background can thrive and be valued in their role at work. We have, for example, been highlighting how unconscious bias can influence our behaviour towards others and encouraging our staff to take the time to increase their awareness and understanding of different cultures and opinions. This will help to minimise the risk of bias in their actions and decision-making.”

Diana Strasser, Head of HR Germany added: “The range of cultures and different ways of thinking allows us to drive innovation and invention across the organisation and makes for an inclusive, productive and interesting workplace.”

“We have flexible working arrangements in place for our staff, including part-time roles and home-working days, so that as many people as possible can balance their work and home lives. This has also allowed us to create a more diverse workforce, with each individual bringing their own experiences, ideas and knowledge. Such diversity is a great strength, making for an interesting and innovative workplace and opening everyone’s eyes to different points of view.”
